The Growing Future Of DISH Network
Christine Peppler
Since 1995, when DISH Network launched its first satellite, growth and expansion of services have been ceaseless. From 100,000 subscribers that year to over 12,000,000 currently, DISH Network programming has expanded to meet the needs of their larger and more diversified audience. With unparalleled high definition programming, interactive channels, pay-per-view offerings, and programming for cultural groups from around the globe, the services offered are vast.
Luckily for consumers, the end is not in sight.
Just several months ago, DISH Network announced that their services were becoming more mobile. The announcement reported the launch of the MobileDISH system which has now occurred in early 2007. The system provides a low profile mobile satellite antenna that can be mounted on the roof rack of a vehicle. These devices are said to be targeted primarily for larger vehicles such as SUVs and RVs. Larger vehicles such as semi-tractor trailers and large RV's have always had the option of mounted a small dish, but with this more streamlined system, smaller, personal vehicles can now take advantage of DISH Network programming.
The company reports that the extensive programming now offers 100 channels of viewing and provides excellent reception even at high speeds. Good news for those on the road for extended periods of time; particularly those with a car load of listless passengers.
In addition, DISH Network has now entered the world of bundled services. DISH Network announced their partnership with WildBlue some time back but the internet service rolled out in March 2007. This satellite based high-speed internet service is particularly valuable for those in rural areas where high speed cable connections aren't even available as no phone or cable line is required for the service. For many years customers who wished to have one provider and receive a single bill for both their television and internet services were forced to go the route of cable, but as of this year satellite TV is able to offer a similar program.
The DISH High-Speed Internet offering with WildBlue will offer three levels of service with connection speeds from 128Kbps to 256Kbps. Anti-spam and anti-virus protection will be available and users will have several e-mail addresses offered to them. More information on the service is available on the DISH Network site.
Just as many technology related businesses continue to expand and integrate services through diversification and partnering agreements, DISH Network appears to be staying ahead of the curve providing an ever increasing array of services that are particularly crucial to those in underserved and less accessible areas.
