And in college, you will have an awe-inspiring collection of books, classics, literary criticism, first editions and author's letters. Time in the library won't pay for school, though, so high school students with a love for language should consider applying for English Scholarships.

College English departments provide the majority of financial aid to English majors. Each school's English department will have scholarships given out in honor of faculty and alumni. The most sought-after English scholarships are renewable each year of your study, while others are one time awards.

Traditional academic scholarships aren't the only awards available to English majors. Most schools also offer awards and prizes for student work. A school, for example, would award a cash prize for work of short fiction or poetry by a student. Some scholarship applications require students include copies of their work. Some English scholarships are given out for academic writing, such as literary criticism and analysis. A strong paper on the early works of Shakespeare from the last semester may qualify you for an award.
