Planning A Sailing Charter In The Bahamas
D. Browall
Sailing in Bahamas is not complete without routing your way to the island of Little San Salvador. This island is quite small. It is one of the country's many uninhabited islands. Little San Salvador is used mostly as a stopover if you want to cruise towards Cat Island or to Eleuthera. But many tourists and sailor are attracted by Little San Salvador's lush vegetation, which include palm trees, machineel, and causarinas. The island also has beautiful beaches. Because of this natural beauty, Little San Salvador was purchased by Holland-America Line. The company is planning to build a 5-star international beach resort.
Bahamas is rather a small country with an area of only 5,382 square mi. If compared, this land area is smaller than Connecticut. Au contraire, its population is also small with an estimated population of only 323,000 inhabitants (2005 census estimate). Most of the people in the island are Africans. However, there are also a small size of Europeans, Americans, Asians, and Hispanics.
The country's main driver of their economy is tourism (from which gambling and other forms of betting is very big). The island's several casinos, resorts, restaurants, and hotels engage almost 60 percent of the country's labor force. Furthermore, 60 percent of Bahamas' gross domestic product comes from their tourism sector. The rest are divided between banking and finance, fishing, wine, and agriculture industries.
Because of the island's colorful and rich subtropical climate, many tourists and sailors have kept on flocking the country. Aside from this, Bahamas also has some of the world's most beautiful sea and sky. In fact, many resorts in the country are famous internationally because of its lovely beaches. The island also has thick vegetation and stunning wildlife. However, the country has no rivers.
Sailing in Bahamas is great because of its 100,000 square miles of deep ocean. These waters are one of the clearest in the world. You can cruise the country's 700 islands and islets. In addition to this, you can also experience, while sailing, the country's uninhabited cays (from which others are encircled by large rocks).
Barrier reefs can also be identified along the country's coastal areas. In fact, Bahamas has the 3rd longest barrier reef in the whole world. Not only this, the island country also has approximately 15 percent of the world's corals.
Sailing in Bahamas along the Hawksnest Creek has been one of the most important strides for many yachtsmen. In here, sailors can refuel their yachts and / or get food supplies for their journey. In addition to this, many cruisers use this place as a safeguard area especially when there is a storm or hurricane coming.
