Tips For Safety When Cycling With A Child On An Adult's Bicycle
Tim Levin
Pedaling a bike with a child is a terrific experience that both parents and children will enjoy. When taking a infant on a bicycle, as they are too small to cycle on their own, there is an raised chance of injury since transporting a toddler as a rear passenger on an parent's cycle makes the cycle unstable. Therefore, it is preferred that toddler rides in a front-mounted child bicycle seat.
The remembering these handy tips below to avoid an avoidable chance of injury:
1. Only grown-up cyclists should ride with infant passengers.
2. Ideally pedal with passengers in parks, on cycle paths, or on quiet streets. Avoid busy thoroughfares and bad weather, and bicycle with utmost caution and at a reduced speed.
3. In America little ones less than than 1 year are too small to sit on a cycle seat and should not be transported on a bike. Do not ride infants in rucksacks or frontpacks on a cycle.
4. Infants who are old enough (12 months to 4 years) to balance well unsupported and whose necks are strong enough to carry a small helmet may be transported in back-mounted seat or ideally a center mounted carrier.
5. A baby cycle carrier must;
* Be securely attached on the bicycle.
* Be designed to prevent feet and hands from being trapped in the wheels.
* Have a strong chest strap and lap strap that will support a tired toddler.
* A lightweight infant bicycle helmet must always be worn to stop or reduce head injury.
6. The son should be fitted into the bicycle carrier with a sturdy harness.
7. Don't forget, the risk of serious accident still exists when you cycle with a son on your bicycle.
