If you are a person that does not like the way that wood paneling appears your home, then you may want to consider doing some home improvement. In fact, many people (possibly thousands of others) wait until they start getting depressed by the paneling that they've actually thought about getting rid of their homes; which you no longer have to do! In fact, there are also many different treatments that you can learn to do something different with the paneling that you have up; even it is the dingy 70's printed wall paneling. All you have to do is follow a couple simple steps and you will have a gorgeous home again; although you should be prepared to put some effort into it!

One of the best things that you can do to your paneling is painting it. However, when painting the paneling you can't just paint the paneling and it'll look great; which is won't. In most cases the paint will drip down, the paint won't cover the paneling completely or there will be yellow streaks in the paint. What you will want to do is prepare all the surfaces first. By that, you will want to clean them with an excellent cleaner that degreases and removes build-up.

You will then need to get some sort of remover for the gloss once you apply the solution for the grease; however, you will not want to put the remover on large areas. You will then want to rub the solution into the grain of the wood and then let is sit for 30 minutes. Once it is dry, then you will be able to paint the primer on the wall (if the paneling shows through the 1st layer, you can then apply another layer once the 1st is dry).

Another thing that you can do is put some paintable wallpaper up. In fact, you will be able to find some great quality wallpaper that you can paint on; which will then look like a normal wall that is painted. By painting wall paper, you'll get to choose the specific color as well as what design you want; even if it has a dimensional effect. However, first you will have to clean the wall with a tough cleaner and allow it to fully dry. Once it is dry you will want to fill in the wall paneling groove with caulk; dispose of excess caulk when trimming. Then you will want to prime all the paneling so that the wallpaper sticks. You will then be able to add the wallpaper once the primer is dry; following all directions. Also, you will want to take into consideration any special notes that the paint manufacture gave, as well.

Another technique people use is glazing the paneling. When you glaze you are adding a nice shine to the panels. When doing so, you will first need to clean the paneling with a tough acting cleaning solution; to get rid of any buildup on the walls. Then you will add a color to the panel and paint it; of course letting it dry.

Then, you will mix a satin top color with glaze, and following instructions you will paint in small sections on the dry paneling; you can determine how much of a glaze you want. Before adding things to the wall, allow the glaze to dry.
