WoW is one of the most commonly played online game in the recent times. The game has a subscriber base of 11.5 million users and that itself is the one of the biggest proof that the game has got a huge fan base. But most of the gaming is done online by connecting to a nearby WoW enabled server for your country. Lower ping is one of the primary requirements for the game. If you are having a higher ping with the server game play is going to be really difficult and filled with lags.
Some of the strategies which have been employed for attaining lower pings in WoW has been listed below.
Many fixes and software programs claim to lower the latency as well as the ping, but in reality nothing of those sorts is feasible. The latency is highly dependent on the routing protocol followed by your ISP and how can such software programs change the routing protocol of your ISP? So it is better not to invest on such programs without much thought. But that does not mean that we are left with no means to play the game just because we are a bit farther away from the server. The game can indeed be played, but with the help of minor tweaks which we will be explaining in the coming passages.
?Creating an acknowledgement frequency for the TCP/IP packet is one of the most commonly employed methods for attaining lower pings in WoW. This can be set in the registry of the OS by creating a new DWORD named TCPAckFrequency in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesTcpipParametersInterfaces. Registry editing is a bit confusing and if you are doing it for the first time, it is better to seek the help of a person who is well experienced with dealing the registry. One wrong turn and you might get yourself completely locked from the PC. A value of 1 must be given to this new DWORD created. Reboot the PC and try the game again with the server. There should be a marked lowering of the latency. If no effect is seen please change the earlier set value from 1 to 2.
?Further editing on the registry is also needed to enable the second tweak too. In this tweak a new DWORD named TCPNoDelay is created and given a value of 1. This DWORD is created in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMSMQParameters. Once again ample care and caution must be taken while playing with the registry. If you are unsure about the process always make a backup of the registry before beginning to edit it. This backup might be helpful in restoring the PC to its old form, in case anything goes awry.
The above mentioned tweaks have been listed in many forums worldwide and they are known to lower the pings by 150ms to 200ms. Hence the dream of lower ping can be achieved on your ISP itself. Make sure the ports which are required by the game is always kept open and not blocked by any firewall software.
