London is the capital of England and the world's ninth greatest city. It has a rich past that spans nearly 2000 years, which started with the arrival of the Romans soon after their invasion of Britain in AD43.London is situated on the banks of the river Thames, in the south east of England.

In 1863, rising traffic congestion on roads in city centre London led to the construction of the world's first metro system, the London Underground.The conurbation was bombed badly while the 2nd world war and many lives were lost. After the war, myriads constructed dwellings in the city had to be rebuilt.Following World War II, immigration transformed London into one of the larger racially and culturally diverse cities in Europe. Immigration was not always smooth, as there were major race riots in Notting Hill and Brixton, but intergration was certainly smoother than in more English regions.

London is a splendid vicinity for sightseers, particularly because it has got so numerous museums and galleries. These include the Natural history Museum, which was established in 1881. This well known museum has some fantastic exhibits, including the noble replica diplodocus skeleton, named dippy, which stands in the museum's central hall. Another fabulous exhibit is the skeleton of a blue whale, which weighs a massive 10 tons and is displayed in the vast mammals hall.

London is noteworthy for its shopping, so you will find everything from quirky independent stores and markets, to designer stores.One of the city's larger noble stores is Selfridges, which is on Oxford Street. It was key opened in 1909 by Harry Selfridge, who wanted to make shopping amusement rather than a chore. He succeeded and the store now has four more branches in assorted municipals far and near the UK.

London has splendid nightlife, which we are doubtless that everyone will find bracing. From terrific restaurants, to exclusive clubs and bars, there is something for everyone in London.One of the larger mighty clubs is the Embassy, which is a private members club on old Burlington Street. The club is quite expensive, but it is burdened of celebrities and preeminent for star spotting. As well as this, it serves famous food by Michelin award winner Garry Hollihead.
