Accommodation In Spain's Favourite City Barcelona
Gaizka Pujana
Barcelona has many attractions that make it a special place to visit. The architectural masterpieces of Antonio Gaudi are a major drawcard for visitors from all over the world. The Sagrada Familia Cathedral is the most popular of Gaudi's attractions, but two of his decorative apartment buildings, Casa Battlo and La Pedrera, not to mention the amazing Parc Guell featuring his signature mosaic tiled decorative elements, are also tourist hotspots that are busy all year round.
Museums including the Picasso Museum, the Dali and Miro museum, and the MACBA Museum of Contemporary Art are also a big attraction for tourists, but Barcelona is not just about art and museums. There are many great ways to spend an afternoon in Barcelona without spending any money at all. Walking down the famous Las Ramblas, stopping for a photo or two of one of the many human statues and street performers is something all visitors to this city should experience at least once.
The beach is also a popular attraction, especially in the summer when beach side kiosks, called Churinguitos open up to sell cold drinks and snacks, and sometimes host dance parties that go on long into the night.
If the beach is crowded, you might like to enjoy an afternoon beside a swimming pool instead. The Olympic diving pool on Montjuic is a great place to do this, with the added bonus of a view down the hill, over the whole city below you.
When planning a holiday to Barcelona the most important thing you need to consider is where you would like to stay. The beach in Barceloneta is a popular area for tourist accommodation in Barcelona. This area offers the beat of both worlds. Not only are you close to the beach, you are within easy walking distance of the city centre and many of Barcelona's most important attractions. You can access these things easily, yet still enjoy the slower pace and quiet community that the locals in this area enjoy.
There are hotels, hostels, called pensions in Barcelona and self- catering holiday apartment rentals to accommodate the many tourists that come to this city. What type of accommodation you choose should depend on what kind of holiday you want to enjoy, as well as your budget!
Renting an apartment in Barcelona is easily the most popular choice for many younger, independent tourists. In an apartment, you can enjoy some peace and quiet, and privacy. You can save money by cooking in the apartment and come and go as you please.
The internet is a great place to start looking for Barcelona holiday apartments, comparing prices and locations and even making your booking online.
For those that want to be closer to the action of the city, you might want to consider staying somewhere close to Las Ramblas in the Bario Gotic. This area is a popular place for holiday apartment rentals in Barcelona. There are many choices and standards available, so its important to research your choices thoroughly to ensure you get something clean, comfortable and good value for the budget you are working to.
Another option for your accommodation in Barcelona is to stay in a smaller town on the outskirts of the city. This option is a popular choice for families, or those who come by car. Parking is a rare and often expensive reality if you stay in the centre of town!
Those looking for a quiet spot to enjoy the beach and quiet, peaceful lifestyle of a Spanish town will enjoy staying in areas like Castedefels, Sitges and Girona. Not too far from the action of Barcelona!
Whatever type of accommodation in Barcelona you choose, don't wait too long to make your booking. Apartments in Barcelona are often full months in advance, especially during the summer months of June, July and August. Hotels in Barcelona also fill very quickly, so don't miss you chance to enjoy a great holiday in this unique and vibrant city.
