How Thin Is Your Marketing Spread?

You might be surprised to learn that many of us suffer from the same problems whenever we are first starting out on the Internet with our business. Since there are so many different directions to go in, the human tendency is to try to go in all of them and see which one is the best for you. Although it would seem as if you were going to find the perfect way to market by doing this, the opposite is often the case. Most people end up so frustrated at all of the options that are available to them that they end up choosing none of them. In other words, they are spreading themselves too thin from the start.
Spreading yourself thin in this way is the ultimate way to fail in your online business. That is why it is important for you to prepare ahead of time for the possibility that you're going to fall into this trap, as you more than likely will. Even I have been in this trap and continue to gravitate towards it from time to time so it is always necessary for me to remind myself to focus on the task at hand. You would do well to remind yourself of the same thing and to continue to remind yourself of it on a continuous basis.
I'm going to share a little marketing secret with you that really should come as no surprise. The times whenever I experienced the largest growth and the most success on the Internet were the times whenever I focused on one particular task and did not allow myself to gravitate from it in any direction. As a matter of fact, I often put my head down and go in a single direction for weeks at a time, simply because I experience a greater level of success whenever I do so.
I know what you're probably thinking, that it is impossible for you to focus on one particular thing because there are so many good things that are available out there. Perhaps you're looking at it as if you were eating a good meal. You might take a little bit of meat, some potatoes, vegetables, a slice of bread and perhaps even a desert. Eating a little bit of a lot of things works well whenever you're talking about food, but it does not work well whenever you are marketing online. If you are trying to spend a little bit of time on the marketing forums, a little bit of time developing websites, promoting them, thinking of new ideas and dreaming about all this success you're going to have, you're going to get nothing accomplished at all.
If you tend to gravitate towards spreading yourself too thin, keep a pen and a pencil by your side at all times. If something should happen to pop into your mind that is not directly related to whatever it is that you are doing, write it down. Take a little bit of time every week to go over this list and remove the things that may have seemed important at the time, but are not as important now. If you are able to add the other things into your marketing plans directly, do so but if not, leave them on the list for later.
