What Causes Snoring: Why It's Important To Understand Why You Snore

Before you can put an end to your snoring at night, you need to know what causes snoring in the first place. There are different reasons that different people snore, and there are different cures depending on those reasons. For example, one of the main causes of snoring is excess fat buildup in and around the throat. This places more pressure on the throat than it can handle, and at night all of it add up to snoring. If being chubby is the reason you snore, the only cure for you is to hit the jogging trail and lose the fat around your neck.
Literally, what causes snoring decides the cure. Another reason why people snore is because they smoke. When you smoke cigarettes, after awhile your throat weakens and is more likely to get clogged with mucus and other stuff that shouldn't be there. If this is the case, the best way to end the snoring for good is to quit smoking. This cure is similar to losing weight, in that you won't see immediate relief from the nighttime noisiness. However, over time you'll definitely see an improvement.
If you aren't overweight and don't smoke, you might want to see your doctor. Your doctor or dentist may be the only people who can tell you what causes snoring for you. In some cases, the tongue is constantly getting in the way of air flowing from your mouth to your lungs. When you sleep and aren't consciously controlling the movement of your tongue, the problem gets amplified exponentially. If you've tried rolling over on your side to sleep and still aren't getting the results you want, you may have to wear a device to bed that will prevent your tongue from being an issue. Mandibular advancement splints are made by your dentist to fit your mouth, and although they are expensive they are also very effective.
