When you begin planning your wedding one of your first tasks will be to find your wedding reception venue. This is where a wedding directory will come in useful. In it you will find advertisements & listings for various venues & locations within your locality, as well as lots of other vendors & supplier for your wedding needs.
A wedding directory can take the form of a paper based booklet covering a particular area or these days there are numerous wedding website with directory listings which will cover the entire country & can be searched via state, town/city or by zip code. It is a good idea to use a combination of both types as not all venues will be listed in every directory.
When it comes to choosing your venue many people are simply overwhelmed by the choices available & may just simply choose a hotel & hall that they are already familiar with. However, finding your ideal location can be easier than you may think. To start use your wedding directory to make a list of all suitable venues in your local area & narrow that list by the types of venues that appeal to you most i.e. hotels, inns, country estates, wedding favors; then you will need to make appointments to visit them & check out which one is right for you. Your final choice should be one made with your heart but which also is friendly & reliable.
Make sure you book your location well in advance particularly if you are getting married in the high season (April ? August). It is usual to book around 12 months in advance of your wedding date but if you don't have that much time you may need to be flexible on your choice of venue.
When it comes to cost you won't know how much the venue will charge you until you have visited them & asked them to provide you with a price based on your requirements. However, you may not get a final cost until all your details have been finalized, such as your menu & number of guests. Make sure you get your total costs in writing before you sign the contract & hand over a deposit, ask about any extra or hidden charges such as corkage fees, over-staffing costs, security charges & anything else. Also ask about charges for any late amendments or changes such as cancellations, change of venue because of bad weather etc.
Wedding And Reception Venues
No one will argue about the importance of the reception venue in a wedding. Your guests will have a mean, in most cases a dinner, in the venue. To this end they will have to stay there for three to four hours. You will certainly pay a lot of attention to the decorations of the venue to this end. Yet, you should also try to choose your wedding venue with your greatest care.
Of course the considerations will be different for different kinds of wedding. If you are planning to have an outdoor event, you will need to consider issues such as the weather. On the contrary, you will not need to consider these issues if you are planning for an indoor wedding. Since it will be very difficult to talk about all the different considerations for different kind of events in one single article, we will only discuss different issues you will need to consider when you are planning for an indoor wedding.
It is not easy to book your wedding venue. This is especially true if your wedding date is a popular day for getting married. It will be even more difficult if you want to have your wedding in a very popular location. As a result, you will need to book the venue in advance.
Regarding the price of the venue, again, it will be more expensive if you are planning to have your wedding on a very popular day. As a matter of fact, Fridays and Saturdays are usually considered popular for weddings. From this you may also be able to guess that weekdays are considered less popular. You may even be able to get some discount if you are planning to get married on a weekday.
The size of your wedding will also affect your decision. You will not consider a very large venue if you are planning to invite 15 to 20 guests only. In this case you should consider having your wedding in locations such as a small restaurant. In fact, there are people who love to have a really small event since they can enjoy the time of being together with their close friends and family members. On the contrary, there are people who will decide to have a big wedding. You may also consider such option if you have a lot of business partners and you are planning to invite them to your wedding. In this case you will need to consider getting a larger venue since a small venue will not suit your needs.
The facilities of the venue and the services to be provided will also affect your final decision. If most of your guests will drive, you will need to get a venue which provides plenty of parking spaces. Considering the services to be provided, the first thing you need to consider is the catering services. Of course you may not need these services if you are planning to hire your own caterer.
One last point you need to remember is that, you will need to visit the venue in person before you make your final decision otherwise you will easily choose a wrong venue!
