If you are considering a diet for controlling or even reducing your weight, it is very important that you know what the underlying principle that causes the weight loss is. In short, you need to know how the diet will affect your metabolism in such a manner as to bring a reduction in your body weight. In today's times, the diet food has become very popular, superseding the popularity of low carb diet, Atkins diet and many other such foods that have hit the market in the past. So it becomes interesting to know how you can turbo charge your metabolism is different for the body's metabolism.

What we must know is that there are basically two types of food according to their GI (GI is Glycemic Index, a measure of the glucose level in the blood). Quite simply, these foods are known as the high GI foods and the low GI foods. The GI is actually a scale from 1 to 100. All foods that have a GI of above 70 are known as high GI foods and those that have a GI below 55 are low GI foods. The in-between foods are moderate GI foods.

When we eat high GI foods, the body triggers the pancreas to increase the secretion of insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is necessary for the control of glucose in the blood. Since high GI foods will add to the glucose level of the blood, the secretion of insulin will also increase. Now, this high amount of insulin will very quickly break down the foods that you have eaten. The glucose is utilized, but at the same time, the food also has been burnt down completely and whatever energy it had to release has been released.

As a result, you will feel hungry again. Since insulin takes about two hours to break down the high GI foods, you can expect to feel hungry in two hours. This is what causes the person to snack and that is what adds the calories and the weight.

But when you put yourself on a low diet breakthrough, there is no drastic secretion of insulin in the body and consequently, the foods that you consume are not broken down that fast. As a result, there is a slow energy release and your body does not feel hungry so soon.

The basic principle of the diet plan is to help you fight off your hunger pangs by prolonging the stay of the food (low GI food) that you eat within your digestive system. Because you don't feel hungry, you do not require much food and that helps you to keep your weight in check.
