Most of the time it is unusual for a person to suffer disc problems that are located in the middle and upper back, but thoracic back pains can at times be very painful and can be caused by a number of different medical conditions. When you feel pain such as this, it usually means there's something going on in your insides and the pain is the only way for your body to alert you to the problem.
Many people who are suffering from chronic pain, and if it is lasting more than a month, could have a thoracic herniated disc, slipped disc or maybe it could be a degenerative disc disease that can be quite painful. If it is one of these problems, it is usually pretty easy for your doctor to diagnose with a simple x-ray.
Thoracic back pain refers to the area in the center of the spine. It is made up of twelve vertebrae that run along the middle of the back, where the rib cage attaches. The top 9 vertebrae connect in the front forms a protective shield around the internal organs. The bottom three, while they provide protection to the inner body, but are not connected and allow for more fluid movement.
There are times when a person who is suffering from thoracic back pain, is not related to bones. It could be related to the large muscles in the back.
The pain can also be caused by internal illnesses. These may be bowel problems, IBS, constipation and upper back pain, kidney problems and bladder infections.
The cause of the pain should first be found before you start a cure via medication. You would want to avoid hiding the real problem with any type of drugs or treatment plans. The drugs could cover up symptoms of a much more serious problem.
If it's an injury, then get treatment immediately. A blunt force trauma can also cause thoracic back pain. Injuries of this nature need to be examined and treated as early as possible. Any type of serious injury to the mid of the spine can lead to many complications. If a swift and good diagnosis is made it can lead to a faster recovery.
A problem with the digestive tract such as constipation can also cause a cute thoracic back pain. Cardiac is another problem that could be transferring that pain to the middle portion of the back. It may be caused at times by the upper back muscles being oddly used or even be a result of bad posture in the center of the lumbar region, or lower back the middle and upper back can also be affected.
There are some treatments that work really good. Stretching exercises can help to reduce the intensity of thoracic back pain. You must find the root cause of the pain though as this is of utmost importance. Once you really understand the cause, then the treatment can then center on that cause, which will help relieve the pain and keep it from coming back.
What Is Back Pain
If we are going to understand lower back pain, then we are going to need to take a closer look at the back in general. The back can be thought of as the body's trunk. Spanning from the neck to the pelvis the back is made up of a structure of bones, muscle, and other tissues. Supporting the upper body's weight and being the centerpiece of the back is the spinal column. The spinal column also houses and protects the spinal cord. The spinal cord is the delicate nervous system structure that carries signals that control the body's movements and convey its sensations. The spinal column, also referred to as the spine, is made up of more then 30 bones stacked on top of each other. Each of these bones contain a roundish hole that when stacked together make up a channel that surround and protect the spinal cord
The spinal cord of an adult starts at the base of the brain and descends to just below the rib cage. Entering and emerging from the spinal cord through the spaces between the vertebrae are small nerves or ?roots?. In the spaces between the vertebrae acting like a shock absorber to allow flexibility in the lower back are the intervertebral discs. This disc is a round and spongy pad of cartilage. Bands of tissue known as ligaments and tendons hold the vertebrae in place and attach the muscles to the spinal column.

Fused together at the base of the spine is the sacrum and coccyx.
The lumber region of the back supports the weight of the body. Lower back pain is the most common form of back pain.
Looking at the complexity of the back, it is easy to see that there are many influences on lower back pain. These can range from bonespurs, herniated discs, arthritis in the back and other serious chronic conditions.
The good news about lower back pain is that for most people it is acute and not chronic. People suffering from acute lower back pain will find that the lower back pain will generally last for a few days up to three weeks. Lower back pain exercises can be done to help build and strengthen weakened back muscles to create more support for the bodies weight.
