White And Red Dragon

    View:
The Welsh people proudly use the symbol of the Red Dragon to represent Wales and their heritage. The bright and fierce red dragon on a background of green and white is now representative of the Welsh people and it has been used by the Welsh over centuries to signify strength and honor. The Welsh Red Dragon and its symbolic flag are used throughout the country and around the world representing centuries of historic battles, pride, and nobility.

The flag of the Welsh is green and white embossed with a red dragon. The Welsh Red Dragon's claim to fame is that it is the oldest flag still used today. The ancient red dragon symbol has become a part of the Welsh heritage, but its origin shadowed by legends and is hard to pinpoint.

No one really knows for sure how the Red Dragon came to be the symbol of the Welsh, accept that it has been a reoccurring image in Welsh history for centuries. The version of the flag in use today was chosen in 1959 by the Welsh people to be its national symbol.

Some believe that in the fifth century the Red Dragon was chosen to represent power and authority over the Roman Empire. Others still believe it came about because of tales of King Arthur. In Historia Regum Britanniae the credit is given to King Arthur's father Uther Pendragon and the symbol's use in an epic battle told between the Welsh and the English.

One popular belief is that the Romans used the Red Dragon symbol in their 4th century trip into Rome from Wales, but others think that the symbol was used even before the 4th century. However, the symbols oldest record comes in the form of a book written around the year 820, in which the Red Dragon was used as a symbol of the Welsh.

The power of the Red Dragon is credited to the 1346 Battle of Crecy when it was used to defeat the French, and also the 1400 rebellion when it was used against England. The Welsh Red Dragon came to symbolize the Royal Navy when Henry the VIII used it on his ships. However the Welsh Red Dragon did not become the national symbol of the Welsh until 1959 when it was officially acknowledged to be the Welsh national flag.

The Welsh now proudly use the flag with it Red Dragon to represent themselves and their nationality. It can be found flying throughout Wales and is used annually to go into symbolic battle to commemorating the battle of Twickenham.

The Welsh Red Dragon is a symbol of power and authority that the Welsh proudly use today to represent their nationality. It comes with a rich history of fact, legend, and pride that is evident today around the world. The Welsh Red Dragon is representative of a country unified by centuries of battling for the recognition of their individuality.
