Got a phone call    Some friends were in town   Time to build a fence and pull some weeds   Loaded up my car   Tools and with gloves   The sunlight piercin' in, in the east   Mixed some cement   Dug some holes for posts   While eyes proned the orchard   Made a lunch to eat      When my summer ends    I dream of that wooden fence    And I watch me and my friends   Just jump and fall asleep      City's like a breath   More like a guess   It always leaves a part of me empty   Never enough   Broken glass and rust   The streetlights divide the sidewalks so evenly   But I got some friends   Play in a band   The city bars make roll 'n' roll taste so sweet      When my summer ends    I dream of that wooden fence    And I watch me and my friends   Just jump and fall asleep      Stars are all out   I lie wide awake   It's too hot to fall asleep in these tired sheets   I think of that fence   Microphones and sandwhichs   I thank the Lord he gives us what we need   My body it aches    From shovels and from drinks   So dig a hole and bury me with sleep      When my summer ends    I dream of that wooden fence    And I watch me and my friends   Just jump and fall asleep
