Reformer Classes

Matwork is advanced with Reformer classes. The reformer works with a combination of springs, cables and a movable platform allowing the participant to use the equipment in a variety of postures. It helps correct muscle imbalances and postural alignment. In contrast to traditional exercise machines, the reformer provides a greater range of motion so it can simulate a wide range of everyday and sporting activities. The use of this machine can be beneficial to clients who, due to heath problems, may not be able to do matwork.

Matwork

Matwork is a serious of exercises done without apparatus. The flow of movement is the same as when you use machines. Matwork can be continued at home or while travelling without difficulty as there is no recourse to equipment. Pilates matwork utilizes the “core” or abdominal muscles, and it features moves lying on the back, sides, stomach as well as standing. As you progress, you can integrate small apparatus, such as a fitness ball, fitness circle, weights, resistance bands or foam rollers, to increase the difficulty of the work.

Chair Classes

The Pilates Chair is one of the smaller but most used pieces of equipment. The benefits of using the Chair are that it improves balance and posture through pelvic and scapular exercises; it helps create flexibility in the spine through stretching activities; it increases strength creating lean muscle tissue and helps metabolic function and it improves mood and energy as it is fun to use.

Cadillac

The Pilates Cadillac was originally designed by Joseph Pilates to help bedridden patients. Also known as the Trapeze over 80 different exercises can be performed on this piece of Pilates equipment, ranging from gentle spring-assisted sit ups to advanced acrobatics that have one hanging from the upper bars – there’s something for all ages and abilities. The Cadillac repertoire of exercises truly challenges the core abdominal muscles, develops spinal flexibility, works the shoulder girdle, strengthens the back and stretches the total body.

Cadillac sessions at TLC Pilates & Fitness are on an individual basis.
