It's amazing that even though most of us have been told right from childhood that we should thoroughly brush our teeth twice or more each day, many people still don't. If you belong to such groups of people, your best bad breath cure is obviously to brush your teeth two or more times each day - once in the morning and at night, before you go to bed.
Don't leave your mouth dry all the time, if you want to prevent or manage your bad breath problem. Always ensure that you drink lots of water before your mouth goes dry. If you leave your mouth dry all the time, it will cause it to smell. Yes, I know drinking lots of water seem too simple to be an effective bad breath cure, but it works.
The mistake that lots of people do when it comes to bad breath is to just deal temporarily with the problem, rather than cure it completely. They buy bad breath mints and gums to quickly chew when the need arises. But this is not a lasting bad breath cure technique. Instead, look for a lasting cure that would deal with the cause of the bad breath problem. In such cases, your doctor or dentist will be in the best position to help you find a lasting bad breath cure.
If you have taken all kinds of bad breath cure mints and gums and the problem persists, then it could be a sign of a more serious oral as well as general health condition. If this is the case, then you should see your doctor or dentist right away for a more comprehensive bad breath solution.
When you brush your teeth, do you thoroughly scrub your tongue as well? If not, this alone can negatively affect the smell of your mouth. So, take the time to thoroughly scrub your tongue when you are brushing your mouth. It will help you get better breath, if the problem is within your mouth.
A dentist I was talking to some time ago told me that people make the mistake of using the same brush for their teeth and their tongues. According to him, using the same brush on the teeth and tongue can make the bacteria from the tongue to move to the teeth. Instead, he recommended using separate brushes for the teeth and the tongue.
Do you like yoghurt? If not, then I suggest you consider taking it because it's said to help with bad breath. Yoghurt is good bad breath cure because it contains those kinds of bacteria that are known as good bacteria that help your health, rather than harm it.
If you want to know whether you have bad breath, without asking someone else to smell your mouth for you, here's what to do. Simply lick the back of, say, your hand and then smell it. If the smell that hits your nostrils is not at all pleasant, then you just might have bad breath.
Acid Bad Breath Reflux
The source of a person's bad breath can be a variety of causes. Of course, there's food recently eaten and illness or other physical ailments that cause halitosis. But about 90% of bad breath is caused by improper oral hygiene. This includes tooth brushing, but also can include lack of proper flossing, dental hygienist visits, and failure to clean one's tongue.
Beverly Hills Dentist, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, explains the importance of dental hygiene, ?The most common cause of halitosis is bacteria. Anaerobic bacteria (those living and growing in the absence of free oxygen) feed on leftovers and dead cells. The harmful microorganisms attack teeth and gums, producing a typical foul smell.?
He continues, ?Brushing two or three times a day is not enough. Flossing after meals is important and seeing the dental hygienist to remove tarter buildup twice a year is needed. And don't forget that dental caries or other decay or infection can also cause bad breath.?
For years people have been using mouthwash to assist with bad breath. Historically, people would rinse with a tea-like solution made from wormwood, alder or mint. Also, they found drinking mixtures made from oak bark, St. John's wort, nettle, chamomile and birch trees, resolved halitosis helped. Many people eat fresh apples which not only freshen breath, but clean off the bacteria on the teeth. Even strong tea is commonly used to kill bad breath. Tea has polyphenol, a bactericidal substance that helps neutralize the smell.
Odorous bacteria can be found on the teeth, on the tongue and between the teeth. Even the state-of-the-art toothbrushes cannot reach in between the teeth. Therefore, the use of dental floss is stressed in proper dental hygiene. There are numerous new utensils to assist with flossing and to make it a simple task. Brushing the tongue is also suggested and this can be done with a brush as part of daily tooth brushing or using one of many special implements for cleaning the tongue that are available today.
Almost a half of all adults complain of bad breath or halitosis in various degrees of severity. Causes of temporary halitosis may include recently eaten strongly flavored food, such as garlic or onions, and drugs such as a paraldehyde. And it has been found that infective conditions of the nose, throat, and lungs (especially bronchiectasis) can cause the problem as well as constipation, indigestion, and some liver diseases have been found to cause the problem.
Periodontal treatment is perhaps the most overlooked cause of this problem. Dr. Maddahi says, ?Periodontal treatment deals with the health and care of the tissues surrounding and supporting the teeth. Bacteria inflaming the tissue housing the roots of the tooth are known as periodontal disease. Treatment is in the form of regular dental cleaning and, in less healthy instances, full tooth scaling (scraping bacterial plaque and calculus from the tooth). State of the art ultrasonic scaling equipment is more thorough and less invasive than scraping; however it is not as comfortable a procedure for those patients with sensitivity issues. Although scraping is often not needed if regular teeth cleaning has been done.?
