You love electricity. If you didn't, you probably wouldn't be reading this article. The fact of the mater is no-matter how put down this industry is, an electrician is an important job but probably the best field to go into when becoming an electrician is becoming a certified mining electrician. In a volatile environment such as mining, becoming a certified electrician can not only save the company money on black outs and hours that are spent not working due to the lack of a power supply, you can even save lives. Therefore, if you would like to do an important job that requires someone's with hard work ethic and a determination to learn and constantly improve themselves, then becoming a certified mining electrician is the job for you.



Before you even consider becoming a certified mining electrician, you need to finish your apprenticeship as a regular electrician. You should ideally finish between four to five years working on the job as a trainee. Throughout these five years, be mindful that you will have to earn minimum wage. The minimum requirements that should be handled during this training period is personal safely, using your instruments correctly, inspecting writing systems and maintaining them, reading and being able to interpret specific electrical drawings and of course being able to trouble shoot specific electrical systems.

You should minimum complete fives years of work as an industrial electrician in a mining organization or field. Due to the high demand of these types of jobs, you will need to hand in an impressive resume that highlights all of your skills and attributes. Make sure you sell yourself and your knowledge.

Before you come certified you need to take a very grueling multiple-choice exam that tests you on all of your electrical skills. Therefore, constantly learn; constantly keep your knowledge and information up-to-date. Don't think just because you have finished studying that you have come to the end of the road now.

Once you feel you are ready to take the exam, apply for a certificate of qualification. You should ideally schedule your examination date at an apprenticeship office near you.

This is probably the step that needs the least explaining but make sure that when you go and take your examination you have photo identification and the correct amount of money you need to actually pay for the required exam. Make sure you are well prepared for the exam and well rested on that day. I should also mention you need to pass this exam to move onto step 6.

Once you have passed your exam, you have finally become a certified mining electrician. Don't lose your original certificate as you might have to pay extra to get another one.

So, if you are willing to spend between ten to twelve years becoming a certified electrician in the mining industry, then you are well on your way in becoming a specialist. Don't give up – while it might seem long it will be worth it in the long run.
