Some people think they are destined to have poor sleep. They believe that some people are born to have great sleep, while they along with many others were not. Well, fortunately for you and all those other insomniacs out there, that is not at all the case. Those people who are sleeping good at night just haven't had the misfortune to be affected by insomnia as you have. Luckily though, there is way for you to sleep just as good as them each night. How? Through herbal sleep remedies, that's how.



Herbal sleep remedies are exactly that, herbal and all-natural. You won't have choke down pills nor will you have to visit doctors whom will tell you what you already know -- "you have insomnia." Herbal Sleep Remedy 1: Relaxing Bath

A regular warm bath can help relax you, but it will rarely be enough to relax you completely for sleep. That said, you really need to add herbal oils to the bath in order to get that full relaxation effect. Herbal oils -- lavender, passionflower, valerian, etc -- will have a strong sleep inducing aroma that should help you to relax and get more comfortable before bed. Herbal Sleep Remedy 2: Cup of Tea

Drinking herbal tea might not be your "cup of tea" -- but you have to just suck it up and deal with it. Among herbal sleep remedies, herbal tea is one of the most effective methods out there for controlling insomnia.

Basically, just prepare the herbal tea (be it chamomile, lavendar, passionflower, etc) as you would any kind of tea; pouring the water just before boiling point. Throw in a bag of your chosen tea and then slowly drink it down while making your way towards your bedroom. You won't likely feel the sleep inducing effects instantly, but it shouldn't be too long until you feel that sleepiness hit you like a ton of bricks.

This has got to be the simplest remedy among herbal sleep remedies. All you have to do take herbal oil -- you can use the same oil you used with remedy 1 -- and dab several drops of it onto a small cloth (I.E. handkerchief). Once the cloth has been sprinkled with the oil, slide it inside your pillow or get a few pieces of scotch tape and tape it to the bottom of your pillow. Either way is fine so long as you can easily get a whiff of that sleep inducing aroma.

Sleep Remedies For Children

Supplements

Supplements are another remedy you might like to try, especially if you are not a tea drinker. Some supplements such as valerian also come in the form of tea. This is another herb that may take some time to take full effect in your body, so just be patient when trying this. Kava kava, hops, and St. John's Wort are a few other supplements that may work for you.

Food

Melatonin is another supplement that may help, but this is a hormone that is a naturally occurring hormone found in the brain. This hormone is produced at night to help you feel drowsy so you can sleep. Melatonin can be found naturally in foods that contain the amino acid tryptophan. Turkey, soy and milk products are all good sources of tryptophan. If your diet is lacking these foods it may be necessary to take a supplement of melatonin.

Others

Some people try many things to help them get a restful night's sleep. Something as simple as doing exercise on a daily basis, rearranging your furniture to create feng shui, doing deep breathing exercises, using visual imagery, or even muscle relaxing techniques may help you. Some more non-traditional methods may include acupuncture, self-hypnosis, meditation, or acupressure.

When deciding what method or remedy you would like to try it helps to know what is causing the sleeplessness in the first place. You may also have to try more than one remedy before you find one that is right for you.
