The study of human population is known as demographics. Military demographics deal with the study of military recruits according to the distribution of sex, age, ethnicity, educational level and income. The first step in military demographics is the collection of right data. The demographics information collected must be maintained and tracked over a long period of time for comparative and growth studies. Military population data is analyzed with the help of reports, graphs and spreadsheets.



Military personnel of the United States retire at a younger age than workers in the civilian sector. Only a small portion of the armed services requires the strength of youth. However, a larger portion of the armed services requires the maturity, experience, and technological skill. Military demographics are used in manning, equipping and training the military force. It is also used in recruiting. The military force in America has African-Americans and Asian-Americans as well. Military demographics take into account many characteristics such as household income, level of education, race or background and the region of origin. The American military recruits a substantial population from the middle class. Mostly, young men and women from the middle class serve the American military force. Fewer people come from the poorer and wealthier families. Military recruits usually tend to be highly educated than the general public. Military demographics reports show that around 75.8% of all the recruits are usually whites. Urban areas are the most underrepresented in military.
