Blackheads are known as open comedones. It is a type of acne vulgaris and is triggered primarily by excess oil.
When excess oils accumulate on the pores and become toxic, it subsequently is exposed to oxidization and becomes a blackhead.
Oily and combination skin types are most vulnerable to blackheads. If left untreated, it can become quite problematic and difficult to remove.
Whitehead is yet another type of acne vulgaris. However, unlike blackheads, it is not so obvious.
Whiteheads are primarily caused by pores clogged with excess oils and dead skin cells.
Most people will try to get rid of blackheads and whiteheads by squeezing with their fingers. This is not advisable because it can lead to scarring and infection.
It will take time for you to remove blackheads and whiteheads. However, you can use acne products that are effective in removing them without any infection or scarring.
Salicylic Acid - assist in getting rid of bacteria and excess oil. It is a very effective solution for removing blackheads.
AHA - this is effective in whitehead removal as well as getting rid of dead skin cells.
Benzoyl Peroxide - not as effective as the above for removing blackheads but it is used commonly for treating pimples.
Accutane - this should be used as a last resort and only for severe cystic acne. If possible, try to avoid using Accutane as it has many side effects.
Home Remedy - you can also use a face steam to remove whiteheads. Add some essential oils to the steamer. The essential oil can be use for anti bacteria purposes.
You can also use lemon juice to help reduce excess oils on the skin while it acts as an astringent.
You can also use pore strips to remove loose blackheads and whiteheads. If you combine it with the usage of salicylic acid, you should be able to remove these impurities quite successfully.
However, remember not to overdo with the pore strips. You should use the salicylic acid solution for a while to loosen the clogged pores and use pore strip once or twice a week to remove the dirt.
