Google employs software programs called search engine ?spiders? or ?robots? to scan through the internet and index as many web pages as possible. The inlaying content of the web pages are indexed and then stored in the databases in order to power search engine results. Google spiders follow the links that they find within the web pages and further extract the content that they find on subsequent pages. When a search query is entered in Google, it quickly scans through its database for the words and provides links to websites and web pages that have the concerned term or phrase.
Basically, Google is concerned with the content of the website and not its design intricacies. What Google cares for is good quality, original and keyword rich content and not how beautiful your design elements are. However, that doesn't mean you can totally disassociate web design from Google parameters.
Google considers the search engine optimization of websites and website design can be induced with search engine friendly features. Here are some examples:
SEO Friendly URLs
Make sure the URLs of all the pages of your website are written with SEO purposes in mind. Avoid using special characters like "=" and "?". Rather try to keep them as relevant as possible and include your keywords and phrases in them.
Keywords in Alt Tags
First, make sure there are appropriate Alt tags for all the images and graphics of the website. Then try to include your prime keywords and phrases in them. A good way to make it possible is to include relevant images on the website. For example if you are a shoe manufacturer, put images of shoes on your website and write appropriate Alt tags for them.
Avoid Flash
Though Google spiders can parse through the Flash elements of website, they are still not able to index them and would not be able to follow any links from the navigation menu that is written in Flash. Though it adds to the visual appeal of a website, it is not really SEO friendly.
Don't Swap Images for Text
When you use an image to replace a chunk of text, search engines would not count the text of the image towards the web page content. Therefore avoid using images in place of
tags.
Optimize Graphics
To make sure that your web pages loads as quickly as possible, optimize all the graphics and images on your website. Internet users have low patient levels and if the website takes too much time to load, they simply choose to leave rather than waiting.
Use Anchor Links
Use anchor links throughout the content of the website. For example if you have a ?web design? as one of your services, explanation of which is given on some other page of your website, you can use the phrase and link it to the particular page.
