Even the worst artist can create exciting wall decor when shown how.
If, like me, you like projects that are quick and easy - you're going to like this.
It's only a small shopping list:
* A couple of box canvases from an artist supply store - the cheapest they have will do fine.
* Enough fabric - either new or used but clean - to cover the canvas(es).
* One of my favorite craft tools - a staple gun.
If the fabric is at all creased you will need to iron or press it first as it needs to be wrinkle-free. Cut the fabric to the size of the canvas plus the depth of the canvas with a couple of inches extra. Simply lay the fabric, good side down, on a table or other surface and place the canvas, also good side down, on top of the fabric.
As tightly as you can, pull the fabric round to the back of the frame and staple to the wood. Just tuck in the corners as neatly as you can - as if you were wrapping a present. It doesn't matter if the back is neat or not as it won't be seen but if there is a lot of spare fabric now at the back, trim it to near the staple or else it won't hang flat against the wall.
The most important thing is that the fabric is pulled tightly so there are no wrinkles or bagging visible on the front of your 'work of art'.
Depending on the size of the canvas you may find it easier with someone to help you as it is not always easy to pull tightly and staple at the same time.
If you have made drapes or cushions for a room, this is a nice way to use the excess fabric as the only cost is a cheap fabric and the end result is a very co-ordinated look. it also works well with upholstery fabrics as you can achieve a look like a tapestry - the corners can be a bit tricky though with a very thick fabric.
Have you ever bought a bed-in-a-bag set and had unwanted pieces? They can now be turned into stylish bedroom wall decor. Rather than use something that is exactly the same as your bed cover, it looks great if you have fabric that is the reverse of the colors - e.g. pink flowers on a blue background and blue flowers on a pink background.
