Outcome Related To Work Conditions For Professional Nurses
Robert Smith
Nursing is a professional course and a career that need to addressed from all professions to encourage proper working conditions for the nurses in order to have a maximum labor output for the wellbeing of the entire citizens. Therefore, labor motivations, recruitment of more nurses and retention of the registered nurses are issues that must be dealt with in order to maintain successful dedication of nurses to their nation. Furthermore, recruitment of more nurses is needed in order to cope with the current increase of diseases and the aged who require continuous care from nursing sector. Therefore, understanding of the staffs’ requirements in this sector must be encouraged.
According to the article on “ProQuest Nursing & Allied Health Source", the executive summary of the findings on the outcomes as far as work conditions for nurses is concerned are that nurses are not satisfied in their career. Due to this outcome, some of the repercussions are that most nurses are leaving the nursing profession, beside that; pending nurses are not willing to join the sector. Low level of job satisfaction is the main reason as to why most nurses are migrating to other fields of employments. This again leads to understaffing of hospitals leading to high death rate, failure to provide safe and effective care to the patients. Eventually this results to failure to rescue the patients from undesired death especially in the surgical department where the patients are not rescued.
From the article on nurse staffing and hospital outcomes (Linda H. and Julie S.),it is found that the dissatisfaction is caused by law salary income, poor working conditions such as nonflexible hours of work that do not give married nurses time to look after their siblings. Another finding is that starting salary or wages do not increase with the prolonged period of work, therefore, there is successive exploitation to the nurses.
According to the article on “ProQuest Nursing & Allied Health Source", other findings are that work conditions that affect the outcomes of nurses involve lack of labor motivations such as baby boomer packages, failure to provide flexible working hours for the nurses, failure for the government to provide scholarship to nurses who want to advance their knowledge on this career.
According to the article by Linda H. and Sean P. pg 4, staffing of nurses in the hospitals and nurse burnout are the main outcomes. Actually, more constructive patients to nurses ratio result to lower nurse burnout and high job satisfaction among the registered nurses. Understaffing nurses can extremely influence patients’ outcomes and can give rise to existing debates in many nations concerning the merits of governmental action to influence staffing level. (Linda H. and Sean P. pg 2, paragraph 2).Again, increase in death rate to the patients and rescue failure to the surgeries are other outcomes due to poor working conditions for the nurses.
Another finding is that there is low technology application and low teaching status. Therefore there is need to mitigate death rate and increase retention of staffs (nurses) in hospitals and this can easily be implemented successfully without due delay. There is this finding that there is no proved evidence that more favorable numbers of nurses to patients ratio can lead to a better patient outcome. Therefore, work force balance for the nurses should be maintained in order to enhance proper working conditions for the nurses.
To start with, poor working conditions for the nurses and their outcomes, thoroughly affects the outcomes for the patients. Patients entirely rely upon the nurses’ performance and dedications to their profession. Understaffing of nurses in hospitals leads to failure by the hospitals to provide effective and safe care to their esteemed customers “Article on staffing and job satisfaction and burnout, pg 4, paragraph 4". Failure to increase the size of hospitals, adopt new technologies and services are the main working conditions for the hospitals that have adverse effects to the patients at large. This can lead to hospitals failing to provide proper medication and high quality services and care to the patients. Another outcome is that patients would die due to failure by the hospital to rescue patients (Julie S. and Douglas m pg 5 confidence interval tables). Therefore, high death rate would be reported whereby it can be reduced if hospitals are staffed sufficiently (Julie S. and Douglas m. pg 4). Therefore, shortage of nurses and lack of flexible working hours are the main working conditions that really affect the outcome of patients. According to the article about “Nurse staffing and hospital outcomes", poor methods of admitting patients due to low workforce, lack of free interactions between patients and staffs, co morbidity and health conditions testing for the patients are some of the poor services that results due to understaffing hospitals.
