Working with metal is not nearly as easy as working with wood and plaster. The issue is that metal is a lot more sturdy then all the other materials but that does not make it any easier to work with. That main dilemma that people who are working with metal are faced with is how to fasten it to different surfaces as needed. There are some answers to be found and it is not all that complicated when you think about it.
Metal fasteners come in all shapes and sizes. The most common form would be the screw. Now if you are going to use screws to attach your metal to a surface you need to understand the different types of screws first. This is a common problem for a lot of people because the choices are vast and they have no idea which type they should choose for the job at hand. First off you should always go with the screws that are designed for metal. They are easy to pick out because they do not have as sharp a point as wood screws do. Wood screws are pointed to a large extent so they can be easily stuck in the wood and will stay while they are being put in. You can not do this with metal screws as their point is far more blunt.
Metal screws are used for the purpose of attaching metal to other surfaces, including more metal. The end is blunt and it is not meant to just starting turning it to get it in. If you are using metal screws then you should always take the time to drill a pilot hole in the metal and then start inserting the screw. If you do not use the pilot hole method then you will take the chance on stripping the head and rendering the head of the screw unusable. The pilot hole acts as a guide to allow the screw to move in and attach to what is on the other side without a problem. You could also cause yourself some serious injury if you do not use the pilot holes as the screw could slip and stab you in the hand or even ruin the metal that you are trying to attach.
The other factor that you should consider is the type of screw head and the quality of the screw itself. If you buy the flat head screws then you are asking for trouble in many cases. The flat heads have a bad habit of stripping or missing and you will end up with a lot of problems and time wasted getting the screw in the area where you want it. Also the quality of the screw is important. If the screw is poor in quality then you will have an issue where you are stripping a bunch of screw heads because the metal is too soft. This can cause a lot of wasted time and the bits that you are using to pushing the screws in will take the blunt of the trauma.
Using these guidelines, you will surely have less of a hard time.
If she loves yellow gold you can get her an engagement ring in either 14K or 18K yellow gold. The capital letter K refers to the word karat and indicates the amount of pure gold present in the ring. Most 18K gold consists of 75% gold and 25% other metals, such as copper and silver. 14K gold consists of 58% gold and 42% of other metals including copper and silver.
It is your preference in which one you choose because both choices are good and will result in a high quality ring. Things that are made of 14 karat gold are usually less expensive; however, the 18K gold will have a brighter yellow color and will be more valuable.
If you are looking for an engagement ring that is white, you will have to decide between white gold, Palladium, or Platinum rings. Platinum is the most expensive metal, but very durable. Palladium is an excellent choice because it has many of the same qualities as platinum but it is much cheaper. 18K or 14K white gold is also an affordable alternative; although gold will wear more over time.
Another thing you might want to keep in mind when choosing the metal used in the engagement ring is that there are eco-friendly recycled metals available at some of the finer jewelry stores. They are just as beautiful and have high quality, but not harmful to the environment.
In many African countries illegally mined diamonds had been linked to terrible human rights abuses. These types of diamonds are called “blood” diamonds. When you're looking for diamonds you should make sure that you find out exactly how and where the diamond was mined.
You can also ask if the jeweler uses the Kimberley Process, which requires all diamond retailers to buy diamonds from manufacturers who have the proper documentation of their diamonds.
You can also look into Canadian diamonds, which are mined in Northern Canada and are beautiful diamonds. They are subject to strict standards set by the government which protect the Arctic environment and the mine workers as well. These diamonds are considered to be some of the most desirable diamonds on the market today.
These are just some things to keep in mind when you are searching for that perfect ring to give to the person who you want to spend the rest of your life with. By being aware of your choices you can select the perfect ring for her.
