The homepage for most websites are meant to be the flagship of the entire site. It's suppose to command attention , inspire curiosity, provoke action. The homepage is where you make your first impression to the entire known world. When a person creates a website, statistics shows that a majority of the time spend during the creation process is on the homepage. Now with some of the major search engines pointing to all the pages of your website and ranking them for specific keywords, your entire site has as many entry points as there are pages. Your homepage isn't the only page with incoming traffic, now most of your incoming traffic is distributed evenly throughout the rest of your site. And when that happens, your homepage will start receiving less traffic when compared to other pages on your site.
