Island Of Hvar

    View:
Hvar is a croatian island on the Adriatic sea.It is located between the well known Dalmatian cities Dubrovnik and Split.

The island of Hvar ( http://www.hvar-apartments-center.com/ ) has a length of 67.5 km, a maximum width of 10.6 km and 11.459 inhabitants (census 2001).

The main town of the island is the town Hvar with 3,643 inhabitants. Other towns on the island Hvar are Sucuraj, Jelsa, Stari Grad, Basina, Zavala, Vrboska, Sveta Nedilja, Milna and Ivan Dolac.

The so-called "lavender island" is one of the most famous tourist destinations, especially during the summer months.

Turquoise blue sea, beautiful bays and pebble beaches, a pleasant climate, lush and colorful vegetation, vineyards, olive trees, extensive lavender fields, as well as historical and cultural sights make Hvar undoubtedly to one of the most beautiful islands in the world.

The American travel magazine "The Traveler" has named the island of Hvar to be one of the 10 most beautiful tourist resorts worldwide.

It is a wine-, nature- and fragrance- island. A cloud of rosemary, lavender, oregano, sage, lovage, anise or fennel is blowing from everywhere, mixed with the resinous aroma of pine and the smell of hot limestone.

The lavender is a typical Mediterranean plant. It is very typical for Croatia. They were planted for the first time on this island between the two world wars.

During the flowering months of June and July, the entire island is beset with light and deafening wefts of lavender scent.

Climate

The climate of the central island is extremely mild. The island is also known as the "Madeira of the Adriatic", because of 2700 hours of sunshine a year.

A day in fog, snow or with temperatures around the freezing point statistically occurs every 10 years on Hvar.

The winters are also very mild, so you can visit Hvar in winter as well. The average air temperature in the summer months is 25 ? C and in the winter months 9 ? C.

Because of the mild climate and the rare occurrence of fog, snow or minus temperatures many hoteliers and apartment owners promise a discount or even a free stay in such a weather occurrence.

Any visitor will find the right area for themselves on this island: The east, around Sucuraj, where the natuzr is untreated, or the west around the town of Hvar, which is very touristy concerning activities such as geography The place Jelsa is located in the middle of these two areas . Galleries, lounges, bars, discos and even a wine bar here give guests a good choice for an evening program.

Beaches

The beaches on the island are mostly made up of stone and pebble and are located in bays, surrounded by pine woods and scrub. Natural sandy beaches are mostly on the north side of the island.

One thing is sure - wherever you are going to swim on the island of Hvar, a crystal clear, pure and unpolluted sea is waiting for you!

Excursions

Numerous excursions are organized from the island of Hvar. There are daily trips to neighboring islands, like the island of Brac, the island of Korcula (the birthplace of Marco Polo), the island of Vis and the Krka waterfalls (Winnetou shooting)

There are full-day excursions (to Dubrovnik or Split for example) and half-day excursions ( to the Blue Grotto on Bisevo for example), it depends on the distance of the destination from the island of Hvar.

Arrival
