Landscape Paintings On Canvas

    View:
Paintings have looked to dig into the innate expressions of human mind. They have ventured into many territories and given birth to many revolutions. Romanticism, Surrealism, Cubism, Impressionism, Expressionism, Baroque, Renaissance and others have all done the world proud. There have been various genres of paintings. Abstract art paintings and still life paintings have thrived on orientation, line, forms and color. More illustrative and mimetic art forms like figurative painting and nude paintings have looked to watch human emotions. Portraiture has defined human faces in bubbling contours.

This brings us now to another niche of painting namely the landscape paintings. These paintings look to draw any scene. It can be a moor or a stretch of grassland. It can be an extended village road or the moonbeams falling on a shimmering pond. Through the supple flow of colors and masterful brushstrokes, landscape paintings have infused lives into many scenes that the painters have thought worthwhile of being painted.

Landscape art in its fundamental form can be painting any natural scene; it may have valleys, streams, trees, forest or any such natural scene. Moreover, it has sky almost as a routine. Landscape paintings concentrate more on the weather as a theme of its composition.

Chinese used man as a scale to innovatively explain the stretch of landscape. For instance, tiny individuals somewhere in the painting showed that the landscape was spread along a great tract. Few European institutions of landscape paintings have talked in depth about secular belief being the theme of natural preserve. It says how epical themes can be created being extremely neutral in the religious compass. Landscape painting has roughed the edges of European painting beliefs all through the 18th and the 19th century.

What led to the landscape art movement? It is tough to pinpoint how it all started but there is a general assumption which is believed to be partially correct. Lot many merchants, sailors, traders had come to a point of Atlantic Canada where the climate was ill-conducive. Navigation was next to impossible and thus intense mapping was required. This resulted in their dotting each and every aspect of nature belonging to those parts. Perhaps, this was the reason of the artworks they came up with.

While making a landscape painting one must look to avoid the weaker parts. There is an urgent need to draw only the strong points. Generally it is recommended to take a snapshot and then work on the image. For stronger composition, the innovative idea of mixing landscape or changing orientation is also recommended. Landscape can be an able reference but following it without a creative bent mars the effect. After all, when exactly replicated, how can human work come close to God's work?

Also, one must look to emphasize greatly on the foregrounds and distress the background with lesser objects and diffused characteristics.

Oil works wonderfully on linen canvas to create the landscape paintings. Yes, even watercolor or Acrylic can ably profile a landscape.
Landscape Paintings On Canvas
Landscape paintings look to paint the natural images. It can be the rivers, forests, trees, valleys and mountains. Sky is used as a routine motif. It can be a horizon painting or a painting showing vast stretches of cumulus puffs. But the landscape paintings play a lot with sky. Actually it tends to give a perspective to the firmament.

Now the Chinese brought forth the beautiful tradition of scaling a painting. It showed a man somewhere in the picture and his exact size reflected on the scale of the paint. Europe has been besotted to painting the landscapes in garish colors.

Atlantic Canadians settled in early centuries had to fight fatal weather reverses. With no way to navigate, they had to look for mapping the entire area and then look for finding their way through. Bored of mapping it in a technical way, they started trying a little paint here and there. This gave birth to artworks which are believed to be the roots of landscape paintings.

Landscape paintings have been perfected in the oil medium. Drying oil as a medium which processes pigment can work beautifully on canvas. Early century painters had to work on cotton canvas. The fabric was heavy-duty but there was always the fear of stretching. Today there is the facility of working on linen canvas. Such canvas does not extend. This way a painter can also play with the texture to contrast it with oil brushstrokes. Now, today there are many painters who use a primer coat to evolve with the right kind of painting. This way the canvas fabrics just don't stretch at all.

Oil is considered to be an exhaustive medium. It may not be as versatile as acrylic which is compatible with paper as well as canvas, but the beauty of layering which is possible with oil can hardly be attributed to any other medium. The turpentine under layering and the varnishes to give added layers augment the class of oil landscape paintings. Landscapes use different natural objects set in different contours. A valley may be raised and a stream may be depressed. Different sets of layering help the painting to come alive. This is beautifully possible through the medium of oil.

While making an oil landscape painting, it is important to take a snapshot and then begin on the painting. Each object need not be added. Few can be verily ignored. The background need not be strengthened completely. It can remain vague and strewn with few objects. The area of focus is the foreground and it requires utmost attention.

It is important to have the right set of green oils. This way the natural landscape can be brilliantly portrayed. To give it an individual effect, we can also add some cobalt blue and pastel yellow. Now for the most important thing: color sellers sell myriad shades of green but hardly ever arrive at the exact oil color that is so central to nature. Nature and its green are peculiar. It is important to understand that unless we mix the greens and gain that given proportion, each work that we do will be just below-par.
