If you could not reach him, most likely, he is intentionally avoiding you. Therefore, calling more often is not going to help. This is especially important if you have just broken up.

Try not to call him during these few days. Most likely, you are not having a positive emotional state at this moment. Therefore, it is not a wise move to contact him now.

Furthermore, calling him too often can make you appear needy. You don't want your boyfriend to perceive you this way.
